Ingredients + Features

Tremella Mushroom: Tremella is one of the more unique medicinal mushrooms, with a special ability to beautify the skin. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tremella mushroom was used both culinarily and medicinally to enhance beauty by providing protective polysaccharides, antioxidants, and superior hydrating abilities. Tremella Mushroom has a very high water-holding capacity, even more than Hyaluronic Acid. The particles in Tremella Mushroom are much smaller than hyaluronic acid, which means it not only provides more moisture but it also penetrates the skin more easily. Studies show that when combined in a hand sanitizing gel, hydrated snow mushroom (tremella) significantly moisturizes the skin better than a placebo. Tremella also contains Vitamin D, which when applied topically has impressive skin healing abilities. In fact, studies show tremella can suppress inflammation and oxidative stress. It can assist in normal skin cell growth, regeneration, and also supports the protective barrier system of the skin. Due to its broad range of effects on the skin, we see Tremella gel as a superior moisturizing base compared to conventional hyaluronic acid serums. 1 2 3

USP Urea (1%): At lower doses (<10%),  topical urea  act as a skin moisturizer, in fact, urea is one of the only scientifically proven substances to actually moisturize the skin. Dry and dehydrated skin is not only more likely to show wrinkles, but is vulnerable to inflammation and aging. Aside from its deep moisturizing effects, urea is also added to Bloom due to its activity as a penetration enhancer, making the other active ingredients work more effectively as reducing inflammation, and energizing skin cells. Multiple clinical trials on the use of urea-containing formulations have shown significant clinical improvement of conditions of scaly and dry skin such as atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis, among others. 1

Methylene Blue: Oxidative stress is one of the major causes of skin aging, including wrinkles, pigmentation, poor wound healing ability, and more. Therefore, the application of antioxidants in skincare is well accepted as an effective and novel remedy to slow the aging process of the skin. While most are acquainted with antioxidants like vitamin A, C, and E, there are even more potent antioxidants, such as Methylene Blue. This substance may be new to you but Methylene Blue is a traditional mitochondrial-targeting antioxidant. There are studies that show its potent ability to efficiently and effetely scavenge free radicals in human skin cells. In comparison with other widely used antioxidants, studies find that Methylene Blue is more effective in stimulating skin cell proliferation and delaying cellular division. Additionally, the topical use of Methylene Blue improves skin viability, promotes wound healing, and increases skin hydration and dermis thickness (fewer wrinkles). Gene expression analysis also shows that Methylene Blue can up-regulate elastin and collagen; two of the most essential components for healthy, youthful skin. Lastly, Methylene Blue provokes mitochondrial uncoupling mitochondria, which promotes the stimulation of cellular respiration. In other words, Methylene Blue can help oxygen and energize skin cells when applied. According to skin irritation tests, Methylene Blue is safe for long-term use and does not cause irritation even at high concentrations. Used topically, methylene blue is very safe and still effective. Taken internally, dosage should be low (400mcg), as it can increase serotonin. However, just to be on the safe side, we add caffeine to the mix, which inhibits the serotonergic effects of Methylene Blue, while also having added skin benefits. All in all, studies show that Methylene Blue is a wonderfully beneficial and safe substance for skincare. 6

USP Caffeine: Caffeine is one of the best skin care supplements; it is safe, effective, and easy to use and has a long list of benefits. Various studies show that topical caffeine can act as a UV-protectant, antioxidant, improve circulation, reduce wrinkles and cellulite, improve the skin’s barrier function, slow the process of photo-aging, and improve the general appearance of the skin by supporting skin cell metabolism and increasing micro-circulation. It is no wonder we feature caffeine in a few of our products. The main reasons we feature it in Bloom are to help reduce puffiness and wrinkles around the eyes, as well as to optimize the effects of Methylene Blue and to act as an effective carrier and delivery agent for the other therapeutic ingredients. 10,11,12

(.5%) USP Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid is a common skincare ingredient, and for good reason. It eliminates inflammation by decreasing the accumulation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and suppressing the NF-κB pathway in skin cells, which can otherwise lead to skin fibrosis and aging. It is a very effective way to treat inflammatory skin conditions like acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and general redness and irritation. However, one surprising property of salicylic acid is that like Methylene Blue; in small amounts, it can uncouple mitochondria. When you uncouple mitochondria, the result is Increased oxygen consumption, which prevents the generation of reactive oxygen species or free radicals. In other words, small doses of salicylic acid can help protect the skin from free radical damage and aging.

How to Use

Bloom is a Tremella mushroom “jelly” serum, that contains naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. The texture is different than HA serum, but application works the same. Start by cleansing the face and patting dry, while leaving the face slightly damp. Apply 1-2 pumps of product onto a clean finger and gently massage into the face skin and under eyes. If your skin is very dry, you may like to use a hydrosol before application.  Allow product to dry then follow with your oil-based products (moisturizer, cream or emollient). Always use prior to any oil-based lotions or emollients.

Good for: all skin types but particularly beneficial for tired, dull, and dry skin.

I am so obsessed with Bloom! It gives me such an amazing glow and really plump lips!

It’s a really nice hydrating serum. Only issue is that it kind of pills and bunches up if layer with other skincare. I get around the pilling by patting it into my face rather than gently rubbing it in. Took a little bit to get used to

      Hello!

We are glad to hear you are enjoying Bloom. It is a trickier product to make, as we do not use HA (hyaluronic acid) and only Tremella to get it to gel. It seems it is a sensitive product and sometimes the smallest changes in tremella (even using a MG scale) can cause slight pilling. We have seemed to mastered this issue now, but in the past it would occur every few batches, but we make in very small batches and the few times it has happened, we offer replacements! Now though, the product seems to be perfected! And one solution around this in the past was to simply make sure you apply the product to a DAMP or wet face, as the Tremella needs water, like any Hyaluronic Acid serum. So make sure you apply it AFTER cleansing, to a damp face, and then let it dry and absorb before using Lush or oil-based products.

Amazing product! Skin is smooth and even. Everything is amazing that I have tried here. I’ve made three different orders in less than two months and have loved every single item. I stopped doing much in the way of skin care for a while because I never found any brands I loved but these are truly amazing. You can really tell there is a lot of love and work that goes into each and every product. Thank you!

Loved this a few months into using it mold started to form around the bottle cap, not sure if it’s because of the mushrooms.

Hello! Glad to hear you like Bloom. It is however our most sensitive product being that it is a water-based one, which mean it can expire. Where there is water, there tends to be bacterial growth unless preserved in alcohol, or some other preservative. We avoid harsh synthetic preservatives and use a gentle, lactic acid preservative from organic fermented radish. Because of this, Bloom has a shorter shelf life, around 2-6 months. Because it is generally a 1 month supply, this usually isn’t an issue and only those who may use it very sparingly may ever experience it going bad. So expect a shelf life closer to 1-3 months on average, and 2-6 months if you keep it refrigerated.

Amazing! I’ve been using this along with Lush and my skin is so smooth and not congested at all. I have larger pores and I’ve never found products that truly work with my skin. I’m a fan!

Hi Nick and Noelle – I just received and used my first bottle of Blume, very excited to finally try it! Wondering if it’s normal for the consistency to have grit to it? Was just surprised by some micro coarseness in the texture and wanted to double check that’s normal for this blend. Thanks!

  8. Sarah (verified owner)

Despite loving all other products from this company, I would not recommend Bloom. It has a rough, sand like texture to it that is uncomfortable to apply to the skin.

      Hi Sarah,

It sounds like you receive a defective Bloom. Either the SA didn’t dissolve properly in yours, or the tremella mixture was too high in ratio to water. In either case, feel free to reach out to our customer service email and we can send you a replacement so you can get the real experience from Bloom.

Really love this product. It’s very gentle but effective. I have this marionette line on my left side that was just getting worse by using harsh chemical exfoliators, facials that ruined my barrier. This is one of the products that helped fix my barrier, re plump that line a bit.
